The Valley of the Sun JCC (The J) and Girly Girlz Scottsdale have joined forces to bring a little glamour to its after-school programming.
After years of working in marketing and communications, Girly Girlz owner Melissa Fink, tired of the 9-to-5 routine, bought the business from its original owner.
In less than a year, she has expanded product lines, services and revamped the business’ website to accommodate retail sales and scheduling. She also still focuses on her core business of providing themed parties for little girls and pre-tweens, plus special mother-daughter activities.
Girly Girlz’s all-inclusive parties undertake every aspect of the events so that busy mothers don’t have to. Little girls have their choice of various princess-themed parties, while the pre-tweens can have rock star or glamour parties. All the parties take place at Girly Girlz.
The establishment also offers tea parties, etiquette classes and glamour sessions, where girls can get their hair, makeup and nails done.
Since she took over the business, Fink has been reaching out to the community. She is working with Girl Scout troops to host merit badge sessions and plans to launch a pilot after-school program in some area schools. The outreach led to her current partnership with The J.
“We are thrilled to be working with Girly Girlz and partnering on this fun program. What woman doesn’t remember the fun of dressing up, feeling glamorous and having fun with their girlfriends?” said Kim Subrin, COO of The J in a press release.
The four-week program begins Wednesday, Oct. 4, and explores fashion, grooming, etiquette and jewelry-making, while developing self-esteem in girls (and boys) grades K-3.
“For nearly 14 years, Girly Girlz in Scottsdale has been the place for girls who want to be princesses and mermaids, or rock stars or fashionistas,” Fink said. “Now, Girly Girlz is bringing its well-loved activities — glam sessions, themed activities and tea parties — to The J. It’s one of the first times kids can experience the fun of Girly Girlz outside of our Scottsdale location.”
The new program is part of an array of after-school opportunities offered by The J, which includes cooking, karate and soccer. The J’s after-school programs are open to everyone. JN
