Dr. Jack and Ruth Roseff Poles (left) were honored on Jan. 17 for the Roseff family’s donation of the Beth Ami Temple ark in 1985. The ark has continuously held the temple’s three torahs ever since, including its very special Holocaust Torah. The Poles are pictured with their daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Dan Klausner, and Rabbi Allison Lawton and Temple President Bob Unferth.

Composer legacies

Arizona State University professor Hannah Creviston debuted “Voices Silenced: Piano Music of Composers Killed in the Holocaust,” a lecture-recital on Jan. 26 at the East Valley JCC.

Breathing room

Around 30 people attended a meditation retreat at Temple Chai on Jan. 26. Valley Beit Midrash sponsored the event, with sessions led by Mindy Ribner, Rabbi Sarah Leah Grafstein and Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks.

Alumni retreat

The Women’s Leadership Institute held its second annual Alumni Retreat at the Spirit of the Desert Retreat Center in Carefree, AZ on Jan. 19 and 20 where leaders throughout the Jewish community gathered together.

Barrow Ball

Day of memory

Cantor Jonathan Angress and guitarist Carlo Fierens performed the music of Italian-Jewish composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco at a concert organized by Beth El Phoenix and the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
