Ceasefire talks

Israel said it has cut off talks with Egypt and the United Nations Special Envoy to Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov regarding a ceasefire with Hamas, as over 400 rockets were fired at Israeli civilian centers in less than 24 hours.

Israel’s security cabinet advanced its pre-scheduled afternoon meeting to the morning in order to discuss next steps. The IDF has announced the limited call-up of “vital” reserve soldiers. Reports also indicated a movement of Israeli tanks toward the Gaza border.

Early Tuesday morning, Israeli officials permitted the opening of children’s preschools and kindergartens outfitted with bomb shelters, as well as non-essential workplaces in close proximity to bomb shelters. Shortly after the announcement rocket sirens blared in the Or Haner and Erez communities near the Gaza border. No additional injuries or damage were reported in those communities.
