The national libraries of Israel and Russia on Tuesday signed a cooperation agreement to digitize the Günzburg Collection, which is among the most renowned collections of Jewish literary works worldwide.

The collection, amassed by three generations of the Jewish-Russian Günzburg family, includes tens of thousands of printed books, manuscripts and incunables (works printed, not handwritten, prior to the year 1501 in Europe). It also includes thousands of works from the medieval period covering a wide range of subject matters, including biblical commentary, Talmud, Kabbalah, philosophy, astronomy, medicine and magic.
