Freedom from anti-Semitism a civil right? Congress ponders the question

Should U.S. law define anti-Semitism? The House Judiciary Committee on Nov. 7 heard from nine witnesses on the question, including the heads of several Jewish organizations. There was no unanimity.

The committee was looking at the proposed Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, which would add the State Department’s definition of anti-Semitism to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
