The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation recently granted $1.6 million to nonprofit organizations that support health- and wellness-related causes, including the Council for Jews With Special Needs.

CJSN received a $3,500 grant for a computer-based program called Nessy, which helps children with learning disabilities increase their reading skills using a multisensory approach. The grant funds the software, as well as training for a CJSN specialist and teachers. CJSN recently started using the program with students at the Phoenix Hebrew Academy and is in discussion with Torah Day School of Phoenix and Desert Jewish Academy, according to Amy Hummel, CJSN executive director.
