Temple Chai Religious School will hold its 26th annual Ellen Woodnick Mitzvah Mall 9:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix.

The community is invited to attend the Mitzvah Mall, which is run by the school’s fourth-grade students, parents and teachers. It is named in memory of a fourth-grade teacher who died of cancer.

The event is similar to a vendor fair or holiday gift bazaar. Every student in the religious school and many temple congregants and community members come to the Mitzvah Mall to “shop” among the charities that are represented at different stations. At each station, donations for a particular charity may be “purchased” in amounts ranging from $1 to $25. In return for a donation, shoppers are given a certificate stating how the donated money will be used by that particular organization. These certificates then make meaningful gifts for teachers, family members, co-workers and friends.

The charities at the Mitzvah Mall include local and national organizations, Jewish charities and agencies that support Israel.
