Parshot Eikev, Deuteronomy 7:12–11:25

It is well understood that after a hard year of work we all eagerly anticipate summertime for vacation and relaxation without the burdens of rigid school schedules for our children and sometimes work deadlines. But where should our focus be at this time in the Jewish calendar? After all, we finished with the saddest time of the year, Tisha B’Av, and there aren’t any holidays until Rosh Hashana. There are many commentators who suggest that there are connections each week between the Torah portion we read and our current events and the Jewish lifecycle. One might therefore glean insight into our question from this week’s Torah portion, Eikev.
