In two weeks, I will be leading the Phoenix community’s Birthright trip to Israel. When the participants ask me if Israel is safe right now or if they will enjoy the trip, I am giving them an honest answer.

The situation in Israel is complicated right now, but it’s not something that we haven’t experienced before. The trip organizers are always coordinating with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Israeli police and other security authorities, and the participants’ safety is a high priority. They would never take a risk that would put our lives in jeopardy. We may have a different experience, which means we may have to sit in a shelter and play Monopoly instead of having camel rides, but we will still have a strong experience and, no less important, we will stand with Israel.
