We found the column “Reflections from AIPAC” (Jewish News, March 25) to be thoughtful, save the phrase “myopic rabbis.” Many of the comments from Donald Trump are clearly an affront to Jewish values. Those rabbis were speaking out rather than sweeping racism and bigotry under the carpet. We saw the horrific result of silence in Germany in the 1930s. We suggest that you read the words of Pastor Martin Niemöller, “Then they came for me – and there was no one left to speak for me.”

I am afraid that Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb learned the wrong lesson from Nazi Germany. The lesson should be that when people threaten to kill the Jews, we should listen to them and take them seriously. It has become fashionable in leftist circles to associate Trump with Hitler and the Nazis, but this is pure slander which is unfair to both Trump and the victims of Nazism. Such moreally self-righteous name-calling only shuts down meaningf discussion.
