ILJCC kosher policy response

Posted: Wednesday, January 13, 2016 10:00 am

There have been a few comments from the community regarding the kosher policy on the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus. We value our community and want to provide clarity on this issue. First and foremost, the JCC and Federation continue to strictly enforce our policy that food provided at JCC and Federation events is kosher.  We are proud to maintain kashrut at the highest level so people of any level of observance can attend our events. Private groups who rent rooms from the campus, and are in no way sponsored or connected with the JCC or Federation, are not required to be kosher. Because they are not allowed to use our kitchens, they do not affect our kashrut.

When we became aware that a few rabbis had concerns, we openly shared our practices and policies with the Board of Rabbis. We received no further communication, questions or concerns. Though we did not receive a response from the Board of Rabbis to our policies and are now learning that a few community members continue to have concerns, we plan to review our current rental and kosher policies as they relate to outside campus rentals at an upcoming board meeting. As part of that process, we will seek counsel from some of our community’s rabbis.
