It boggles the mind. The Jewish News Passover holiday edition featured a description of a social justice-themed Jubilee Haggadah by “Save Israel, Stop the Occupation.” (“6 social-justice-themed seder supplements,” Jewish News, April 7). Even if your description was an oversight of omission rather than commission, the title alone should have been enough to trigger an alarm.
This Haggadah is supported by the New Israel Fund, an organization that has financed a myriad of anti-Israel projects.
The NIF supports the BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) movement, has a history of joining a number of virulently anti-Israel organizations which systematically target the IDF, and aligned itself with terror groups by donating millions of dollars to the defense of Arabs charged with murderous acts against Israel.
You do a disservice by repeating the canard that the edition “connects the Passover story to a call for the end to Israel’s ‘occupation’ of the West Bank and Gaza.” Were your editors asleep in August 2005 when Israel – through the Unilateral Disengagement – withdrew completely from every inch of Gaza, forcibly removing thousands of Jews from 14 communities? Yes, Gaza is today Judenrein – yet this malicious Haggadah, and you, seem not to have noticed, or cared.
That “oversight” might be forgiven. But the slanderous anti-Israel publication cannot – it is contemptible.
