The first time I ever arrived in the Holy Land, I went down to kiss the ground, whereupon my backpack swung onto my head and I banged my nose on the cold, hard floor. Someone saw that my eyes were watering and said: “Yeah, I also feel so emotional!”

Even though I have been to Israel many times over the years, I still feel overwhelming emotion whenever I touch down in the land of Israel. But more and more, I also feel the weight of the enormous challenges that Israel — and the American Jewish community — faces. Just to name the first 10 challenges that come to mind:
