Settlements hurt chances for peace

Yishai Fleisher, the international spokesperson for the Israeli settlement of Hebron, came to speak at the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center at a Sept. 8 event presented by Americans for a Safe Israel.  As a student at Arizona State University, both invested in the Jewish community in Greater Phoenix and with family in Israel, I felt it was important to listen to what he had to say.

Fleisher is known for his advocacy for the Israeli settlement in Hebron, the largest Palestinian city in the West Bank. Jews left Hebron after the Hebron massacre in 1929, and when Hebron fell back into Israeli control after the Six-Day War, a small population moved there and inserted themselves among the Palestinian community of Hebron.
