Jack Laufer, father of Dr. Nathan Laufer, father-in-law of Judy Egett Laufer of Paradise Valley, and grandfather of Andrew Charles Laufer of Los Angeles, California, died peacefully in Montreal, Canada, at 101 years of age on Nov. 22, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Pepi Brachfeld Laufer, and his other son, Aubey Laufer (Mary Laufer), of Montreal, Canada. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings who perished in the Holocaust. Funeral services were held at Paperman & Sons in Montreal. Shiva was held in Montreal, Canada, and Paradise Valley, Arizona. Jack Laufer was born in Lejansk, Poland on July 13, 1916. He escaped from the Gestapo during the Nazi invasion of Poland. Upon entering the Soviet Union, he was imprisoned in Siberia for two years. After his release, he worked in a sheepskin factory in Russia for four years. At the end of World War II, he found his way to a displaced persons camp in Germany prior to emigrating to Canada as a lumberjack in Northern Ontario. He spent the major part of his life as a furrier in Montreal, Canada, being the owner of J Laufer Furs. He was active in the Farband Labor Zionist Organization and many other Jewish and Israeli organizations. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends as a kind, gentle and generous man. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.
