Obituary - Libby Friedman

Libby Friedman, a Scottsdale resident for 30 years, passed away on Nov. 19, 2017. Libby was born and grew up in Belleville, Illinois. She was the youngest of the four children born to Tillie and Jacob Friedman. After high school she enrolled at the University of Illinois and earned her undergraduate degree. Libby moved to Phoenix in 1962 and reunited with her mother and her brother “Vic” and his family. Once settled in Phoenix, she entered the graduate program at ASU. After earning her first master’s degree in education, she accepted a teaching position at Rancho High School in Las Vegas. In 1967, Libby returned to Phoenix and earned her second master’s degree in education from ASU. She remained in Phoenix and taught at Central, Alhambra and Camelback high schools. Libby was an intrepid world traveler, visiting all seven continents, including Antarctica. Besides traveling, she enjoyed golfing, reading and learning about new things. Libby found a special joy in cooking and entertaining, and she was generous with her time and resources. Left behind to cherish her memory are nieces Roberta Brimer of Ballwin, Missouri; Jacqueline Fierman of St. Laurent, QC, Canada; Joann Burgess (Robert) of Phoenix; and nephews Michael Fierman (Helene) of Encino, California, William Fierman (Harriet) of Bloomington, Indiana, and Dennis Friedman of Phoenix.
