Dr. Herbert Liston, age 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Germany on June 26, 1931, and immigrated to the United States to avoid the Holocaust. He was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended Cleveland Heights High School, Western Reserve University and graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatry in 1959. Herb and his wife, Seema, moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in March 1961, where Herb opened his podiatry practice. He retired 35 years later and followed his dream of playing bridge daily at the Phoenix Bridge Center, where he achieved the rank of Diamond Life Master. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Seema; brother Martin; son Aaron (Sara) Liston; daughter Sally (Tony) Underwood; daughter Elaine (Paul) Werner; and four grandchildren, Nico, David, Maria and William. Graveside services were held Thurs., November 16 at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Beth El Congregation section, 2300 W. Van Buren St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Free Loan of Phoenix or The New Shul.
