D. Howard Tolchin, 71, Scottsdale, AZ, son of Shirley Silver and Philip Tolchin passed away November 16, after courageously battling a third reoccurrence of cancer as well as pneumonia. While at Bradley University, he enrolled in Officer Candidates School (Marines) which taught him to “never give up!” Howard applied this philosophy in dealing with his health challenges. At 40, he became a Scottsdale police officer - proud to Serve and Protect. Other careers included one in life insurance and another as a Jewish News ad executive. Howard loved spending time with family, traveling, SCUBA diving, cycling, playing racquetball, and was a support to others with cancer. His surviving loved ones, Merle, his wife of 49 years, daughters, Rebecca (Barry) Shevat and Dayna Tolchin, granddaughters Jordyn and Sydney Shevat know that he is now “free to travel the world and beyond.” Donations may be made to Gray Matters Foundation at www.graymattersfoundation.org or PO Box 27106 Scottsdale, AZ 85255. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
