Helen Flam Blecher
Helen Flam Blecher of Phoenix, 99 years, passed away Dec. 19. Helen was born in Bronx, New York and was a homemaker. She started the Oneg Shabbat group in Sun City West. She is survived by her daughters, Carole Goldstein of Phoenix; Lori Greenstein of Cary, North Carolina; and son, Robert Blecher of Valencia, Spain. Blecher also had nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Graveside services were officiated by Rabbi Arthur Lavinsky. Contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley North East Team L, or your favorite charity. Arrangements made by Sinai Mortuary of Arizona.
Abby Ilene Schwartz
Abby Ilene Schwartz passed away on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017. She was born in Phoenix, Arizona. Abby was educated at Phoenix Hebrew Academy, Central High School and University of Arizona. Abby’s education specialized in child development and she enjoyed working with at-risk girls and also worked in the Schwartz family business. Abby’s sense of humor will always be remembered and she will be greatly missed. Abby is preceded in death by her father, Jess Schwartz, and is survived by her mom, Sheila Schwartz; her brother, Frank (Jennifer); her sister, Lesley Hammer (Eli); her nieces, Elexa, Haley, Jaclyn, Ava, Mandy Hammer and Danica Schwartz, and good friend Barry Poole. Services were held at Beth Joseph Congregation on Sunday, Dec. 24. Contributions may be made to Beth Joseph Congregation, Beth Tefillah Congregation or the Jewish Day School Scholarship Endowment Fund. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
JoAnn “Cookie” Sklar
JoAnn “Cookie” Sklar, born July 25, 1947, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as JoAnn
Plotkin, died Dec. 20, 2017 at her home in Phoenix. She is survived by her
husband of 48 years, Mark N. Sklar, daughter Debbie Lynn Quillen, son
Michael I. Sklar and four grandchildren, Zander, Zoe, Caleb and Jonah. Cookie
leaves behind a legacy of candor, love, humor, immaculately wrapped gifts and
decorated tables. Funeral services were held in Phoenix on Dec. 22 and a memorial service is to be held in late January. In lieu of flowers, gifts or donuts, the family is requesting donations be made to Whispering Hope Ranch in Arizona.
