Max David Horowitz, son of Lauret and Ted Horowitz of Phoenix, will become a bar mitzvah on Oct. 28 at Merkaz Ha-Iyr.

Grandparents are Robert Schreier of San Saba, Texas, and the late Penny Schreier; and Martha and Mel Horowitz of Peoria.

For his mitzvah project, Max is making food basket centerpieces, which he donates to the Jewish Family & Children’s Service’s food pantry program, Just Three Things. He is starting a food-basket centerpiece-rental program for JFCS, so that his bar mitzvah project can continue to benefit the community in the future. (For more information, go to jfcsaz.org or contact HollyFoxPacker@gmail.com.)

Max attends Stetson Hills Elementary School and his hobbies include cross country, soccer, baseball, solving Rubik’s cube and playing Xbox with
