Sydney Taylor Hofer

Sydney Taylor Hofer, daughter of Meredith Hofer and Tige Hofer of Scottsdale, will become a bat mitzvah on April 21 at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Gail and Ira Schneider of Scottsdale and Dr. Charles Hofer of Phoenix and the late Shelia Hofer.

Sydney attends Cheyenne Traditional School. For her mitzvah project, Sydney is raising money for JonStrong in honor of Jon Schneider. Schneider was Sydney’s uncle, who passed away from cancer in September 2017. For more information, visit jonstrong.org.

Her hobbies include cooking, art and dancing.

Etan Toren Appelson

Etan Toren Appelson, son of Jenn Appelson and Dan Appelson of Phoenix, became a bar mitzvah on April 14 at Temple Kol Ami.

Grandparents are Sandy Snitz of Sun City and the late Andy Siegel and Gwen Appelson of Dallas and the late Edward Appelson. Great-grandparents are Irene Holdermiller of Hamburg, New York, and the late Louis Holdermiller, Miriam Strohl and Irving Appelson.

Etan attends Mountain Trail Middle School. For his mitzvah project, Etan collected more than 300 youth-aged books for UMOM, a service that provides temporary housing and a path to permanent housing. He also participated in UMOM’s Read-to-Me program, where he read with children in the program.

His hobbies include music, indoor soccer, baseball cards and video games.
