When most of us reminisce about kindergarten, we remember active playtime, making new friends, delicious snacks and singing the ABC song. It was a time of pure imagination and excitement as we settled into the world of elementary school.

Today's kindergarten classrooms look surprisingly different. Some experts even call kindergarten the "new first grade." By the end of kindergarten, most children will be able to read simple books, write sentences and understand early mathematical concepts.
