The Women's Philanthropy fall event, with a theme of "Think Globally, Act Locally," will feature Susan Stern, who was named by the White House this year to chair the President's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. She will discuss making a difference through philanthropy, volunteering and activism. Carey Pena, anchorwoman and investigative reporter of KTVK-Channel 3, will be the emcee.
The women's event will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus, 12701 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale. Cost is $18, which includes dessert. The East Valley JCC will hold a family Shabbat dinner 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16. The preschool classes will perform special Shabbat songs. Families should bring a dairy or pareve dinner, and the EVJCC will provide dessert and drinks.
