HIAS, Tucson JFCS team up to aid refugees

The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society and its Tucson affiliate, Jewish Family and Children's Service of Southern Arizona, have developed a cultural orientation program to help African refugees adjust to life in their new home.

The initiative, funded by a U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement grant, addresses many of the basic concerns when moving from a rural environment to an urban area.

The program will provide information on topics such as living in an apartment complex, tenant rights, public transportation, sanitation, hygiene, shopping and banking.

HIAS and the Tucson agency will divide the one-year, $27,300 grant for the resettlement of up to 100 Africans.
