YLD director finishes Livnot session

Rachel Richter, director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix's Young Leadership Division, has completed Livnot U'Lehibanot's July session in Israel as part of the Young Professional Fellowship Program.

Richter attended seminars on Jewish ethics and philosophy, Zionism and Jewish identity. She participated in community work that provided the opportunity to dig in the tunnels underneath Jerusalem's Western Wall. The group she was with also painted an apartment of an elderly woman who lives above the Machane Yehuda market in Jerusalem.

"It was about group experience," Richter said in a statement. "We were there for each other as a group, hiking and getting around. The bonding was an exception to the rule. It was a partnership. We got to see different aspects of Israel. I'm going home with a lot of positive thoughts."

Livnot U'Lehibanot is a study, hiking and community service program in Jerusalem and Tzfat for 20- to 30-year-olds interested in examining their Jewish commitment and exploring their connection to Israel and their Jewish roots.

Livnot U'Lehibanot is offering a limited number of fellowships to young professionals in a position of Jewish leadership. Federation professionals who work with Israel Experience programs, young-adult and young leadership divisions and affiliated agencies are eligible to apply. Fellowship recipients participate in the regular two- and three-week Livnot programs.
