Jodi Tilsner has joined the staff of Jewish Family and Children’s Service as coordinator of Jewish services. The position, funded through the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, was created to improve the continuity and consistency of information and services to the Jewish community. Tilsner received her master’s degree in social work from Arizona State University. She can be contacted at 602-257-1904, ext. 247.

Carol Waldman, owner of Consigning Women, recently attended the 12th annual National Association of Resale and Thrift Store Conference in Atlanta. Waldman toured resale stores and attended seminars dealing with resale store improvements. More than 300 resale shopkeepers attended the conference. Waldman has been an NARTS member for three years. She opened her Scottsdale store, 7120 E. Indian School Road, in December of 1997.

The Omni Group of Companies has acquired a new leasing/sales assistant — Ottawa University in Phoenix graduate Dale Smith. Smith has a bachelor’s degree in human services and a paralegal degree, as well as extensive knowledge of insurance and banking. The Omni Group is a Scottsdale-based commercial real estate and property management company.

Training á la Carte of Phoenix has presented its President’s Trophy Award to Eileen Jeffery, who received $1,000 and a gold pen. Training á la Carte is a personal-computer training company with learning centers in Phoenix and Tempe.

Steven Burr, a partner at the Lewis and Roca law firm, successfully argued an appeal before the United States Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., that overturned three controversial air-quality standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency. The case challenged the EPA’s 1997 adoption of new ambient air quality standards for particulate matter. The federal appeals court ruled that three national ambient air quality standards were unconstitutional and that the ozone standard was unenforceable. Burr is a partner in the firm’s environmental group and has practiced environmental law exclusively for 10 years.

Lewis and Roca partner Merton E. Marks traveled to Paris to give a talk to a group of European lawyers and business executives on U.S. product liability law during a program titled “Doing Business in North America.” The program was sponsored by the International Lawyers Network, an organization of more than 60 law firms with 3,000 lawyers worldwide. Marks, a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, represents international corporations in civil litigation. He is a past president of the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel.

Dawn Bergin, as associate with Lewis and Roca, was recently elected to the Maricopa Bar Association’s board of directors. Bergin practices in the areas of commercial and tort litigation for the law firm.

Donald Baier and Thomas Morgan, both of Phoenix, have joined the Phoenix office of Lewis and Roca. Baier, a 1994 graduate of the University of Arizona College of Law, will join the firm’s commercial litigation practice. He most recently worked at Anderson, Kill & Olick. Morgan, a 1981 graduate of the University of Oklahoma Law Center, joins the firm’s business practice as of- counsel. Morgan’s areas of practice will include securities, general corporate, mergers and acquisitions and taxation. Prior to joining Lewis and Roca, he was with Gallagher & Kennedy.

Activity at Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo & Co. has named Paul G. Telenko to be its Community Reinvestment Act analyst, overseeing the company’s 21-state region. Prior to the appointment, Telenko, a four-year Wells Fargo/Norwest team member, was the community development representative and consumer credit work director for Arizona.

Wells Fargo’s Business Banking Group has added five bankers to its Arizona operations. Connie Parker is a business banker in Scottsdale. A graduate of Pacific Coast Banking School, she joined First Interstate/Wells Fargo in 1995.

Rick Berkheimer of Tempe is vice president/relationship manager in Phoenix. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska. Jerry Ritchie of Mesa is an assistant vice president in Mesa. He has been with Wells Fargo since 1995 and most recently was a relationship manager for out-of-state business customers. He has a bachelor’s degree and MBA from Arizona State University.

Mary Collum of Ahwatukee is now an assistant vice president/relationship manager in Tempe. She has been with Wells Fargo since 1991 as a credit analyst and consumer loan officer. She has a bachelor’s degree in business finance from ASU. Doug Hargraves is vice president for commercial lending in Phoenix. He joined Wells Fargo in 1996 as a commercial lending officer. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University.

Daniel Prossen has been hired for the new marketing/corporate relations position at The Focus Agency, a company he returns to three years after being an intern there in 1996, shortly after graduating from the University of Maryland. Prossen most recently has held management positions in the promotions departments of radio stations KZZP (104.7 FM) and KMXP (96.9 FM) for Jacor Communications. The two stations were recently acquired by San Antonio, Texas-based Clear Channel Communications.

Les Hunt of Scottsdale has been appointed executive director and Barbie Koskovich of Phoenix has been appointed marketing coordinator for Sierra Pointe, a rental retirement community in Scottsdale. Prior to joining Sierra Pointe, Hunt was with Brookdale Living Communities Inc., where he most recently served as executive director of The Springs of East Mesa. Koskovich, a 1992 graduate of William Paterson College in Wayne, N.J., previously was the marketing director for Villa Ocotillo.

Bruce Calder has been appointed event coordinator for Lewis Steven’s Distinctive Catering of Phoenix. Calder owned and operated a restaurant in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, for five years. He has worked with Lewis Steven’s for the past year as an in-house chef.

Sandra A. Abalos, president of the accounting firm Abalos & Associates, P.C., was the winner of the 1999 Working Women Magazine Entrepreneurial Excellence Award and was among the finalists for the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce 12th annual Small Business Person of the Year Award, presented last month.

Dr. David J. Tuckman of Phoenix has joined the Beatrice Keller Clinic in Sun City and Sun City West. A 1964 graduate of Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, he completed his dermatology residency in 1968 at the Skin and Cancer Hospital of Temple University in Philadelphia. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology.

Pete Lesser has been appointed to the newly created position of director of food and beverage for the Sheraton Crescent Hotel, 2620 W. Dunlap Ave. in Phoenix. Lesser previously served as general manager of two Starwood Hotels and Resorts properties in Portland, Ore. A Boston native, he lives in Scottsdale with his wife and two children.

Arlington Multimedia, led by President Brian Epstein and former TV journalist Karen Carns, earned six TELLY Awards. The awards, founded in 1980, recognize outstanding non-network and cable commercials. Arlington Multimedia is a full-service multimedia agency in Phoenix.

Deborah J. Weeks has join-ed Staff One Search as a recruiting specialist in the Phoenix firm’s new Technical Staffing Division. Staff One Search provides direct hires, temporary staffing, executive placement, technical staffing and payroll services to a variety of Valley clients.

Abbie S. Fink, vice president of Hanson, Moser & Associates, has been promoted to vice president and general manager of the Phoenix-based marketing communications and public relations firm. Fink, who joined the firm in 1993 as an account executive, will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the nine-person agency. A Scottsdale resident, she has a master’s degree in mass communications and a bachelors degree in journalism/public relations from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Telecommunication at Arizona State University.
