ADL to honor community leaders

The Society of Fellows of the Arizona Region of the Anti-Defamation League will honor the winner of the Second Annual 1999 Arizona Leaders of Distinction Awards at an event at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, at the Scottsdale Radisson Resort and Spa, 7171 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale.

The honorees are Susan Goldwater, Earl J. Baker, Joe Garagiola Jr., Larry S. Lazarus and Daniel R. Ortega Jr. The "Al" Brooks Award recipient for 1999 is the late Fran Waldman, who waged a 40-year fight against bigotry, racism and anti-Semitism. Also, an award will be presented to the family of late former U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater in recognition of his lifelong efforts to bring together people of all races, religions and ethnic backgrounds.

There will be a limited silent auction featuring sports memorabilia and a live auction, including a BMW R1200 Cruiser Motorcycle, a baseball "in the booth" package with Joe Garagiola Sr., and a business-class trip for two to Europe.

The Arizona Region of the Anti-Defamation League established the event to honor extraordinary individuals for their successful professional and philanthropic achievements.

Call (602) 274-0991.
