Human services commission seeks new members

The Phoenix Human Services Commission will conduct an election for members at 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 26, in the Phoenix City Hall atrium, 200 W. Washington St., Phoenix.

Individuals interested in serving on the 26-member, citizen advocacy commission must be nominated and voted in by low-income Phoenix residents, but need not be low income themselves. Candidates are required to be at least 18 years old and Phoenix residents. Members are elected to two-year terms.

Candidates or nominators may pre-register at any Human Services Department site or at Phoenix City Hall. Registration is also available from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the door on the day of the election. Parking will be validated at the 305 W. Washington St. parking garage.

The commission meets once a month. It advises the mayor and city council on programs for low-income residents. Programs such as Head Start, home delivered meals, shelter services and those providing other human services are also supported by the commission.
