Hon Kachina to consider nominationsThe Luke's Men and television station KNXV (Channel 15) in Phoenix are looking for nominees for the 23rd Annual Hon Kachina Volunteer Awards. The statewide award honors outstanding volunteers, such as people who spends dozens of hours each week helping to make neighborhoods safer for children, or counseling teenagers on suicide hotlines.Previous winners have dedicated themselves to causes such as health care, neighborhood revitalization, youth and senior activities, the arts, education, justice, housing, nutrition and social services. The awards presentation, which will be broadcast on Channel 15, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at Marriott's Camelback Inn in Phoenix. Anyone who is high school-age or older is eligible for nomination. Nominations will be considered based on factors including the amount of time dedicated to volunteer efforts, and the number of lives touched by those efforts. Favorable consideration is given to young volunteers and those involved with organizations having limited resources. As many as nine honorees will receive a hand-crafted Hon Kachina doll, representing the healing Kachina in the Hopi culture. Honorees' organizations will share equally in proceeds generated by the event. For more information or nomination forms, call 905-1578 or visit the Hon Kachina Volunteer Awards Web site at www.honkachina.org. |
