Parties differ on best date for primary

To hell with daylight-savings time" in Arizona, according to the song in the musical "The Gov," and now to hell with joining forces on a Western states' super presidential primary election in 2000.

After leading the fight to get the upcoming Western Presidential Primary moved from a Saturday to a Friday, it appears Jewish activists in Arizona will have to deal with the state Democratic Party on scheduling its presidential preference primary on a day of the week that doesn't conflict with the Jewish Sabbath. Arizona, it seems, is opting out of what was to be an eight-state combined primary election on Friday, March 10, 2000.

"Whatever they decide to do is fine, so long as they don't interfere with our right to participate," said Joel Bresh
