AJC accepting applications for community service honorsThe local chapter of the American Jewish Committee is now accepting nominations of candidates for the 1999 RosaLee Shluker Community Service Awards, to be presented at the chapter's annual meeting on Sunday morning, May 23, at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Phoenix.Candidates need to be AJC members who demonstrate a history of personal commitment and dedication to the betterment of intergroup relations, the ideals practiced by Shluker in both the Jewish and general communities. Shluker served with distinction on many boards, committees and organizations as an advocate for social justice and equality. Her courageous fight against cancer brought her active life to an end. In her memory, the AJC created the award to celebrate her life and to highlight the important contributions of others who follow on her path. Nomination forms are available by mail request from the AJC at 3443 N. Central Ave., Suite 906, Phoenix, 85012, or by calling 248-8845. All nomination forms and supporting materials become the property of the AJC and must be received by noon on Tuesday, Feb. 16 to be considered for the 1999 award. |
