Considered a "young person's illness," IBD affects most people between the ages of 20 and 40 years old and often lands its victims in the hospital for weeks at a time due to severe blood loss, an inability to properly digest food, extreme abdominal pain and intense diarrhea. Nearly 45,000 Arizonans have IBD. The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America is a non-profit health organization committed to finding the cause and developing a cure for IBD. The Arizona Chapter funds national IBD research and local education programs.
