Prominent Jewish Renewalist rabbi to visit Arizona

Rabbi Daniel Siegel, executive director of ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal, will be the scholar in residence at Ruach Hamidbar-Spirit of the Desert Jan. 13-16.

Siegel is a well known Jewish Renewalist who supports and nurtures the vision of a more inclusive and creative path in Judiasm. He has extensive experience in creating Jewish community among diverse Jewish populations. Along with his wife, Hanna Tiferet Siegel, he founded Or Shalom in Vancouver, B.C. He has served as Jewish chaplain, advisor and spiritual leader to college students at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, and at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. While at Dartmouth College, Siegel also served as director of the Dartmouth Community Mediation Center. He currently resides in the Boston, Mass., area.

While in Arizona, Siegel will be appearing at various temples around the Valley, including:
  • Wednesday, Jan. 13, 7:30 p.m., Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix. "The Impact of Jewish Renewal in all of the Denominations."

  • Thursday, Jan. 14, 10 a.m., Board of Rabbis at Har Zion Congregation, 6140 E. Thunderbird Road, Scottsdale. "Hassidic Insights on Miracles."

  • Friday, Jan. 15, 7 p.m., Ruach Hamidbar Kabbalat Shabbat services at Palo Cristi Presbyterian Church, 3535 E. Lincolm Drive, Paradise Valley. "The Renewal of Judiasm and the World as We Enter the 21st Century."

  • Saturday, Jan. 16, 10 a.m., Ruach Hamidbar Shabbat morning services at Palo Cristi.

  • Saturday, Jan. 16, 4 p.m., Ruach Hamidbar Torah study and Havdalah (service ending the Sabbath). "Mystical texts on the New Moon." Call 420-1700 for location.
