The Council for Jews with Special Needs has become a constituent agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix

The board of directors of the Jewish Community of Greater Phoenix at its Dec. 15 meeting, approved constituent agency status for the Council of Jews with Special Needs. Approval of the council's request brings the number of constituent agencies of the federation to 10.

As a constituent agency, the council will be eligible each year for a base dollar allocation from the federation. Base funding is provided for each year through the UJA-Federation Annual Campaign. A total of almost $1.14 million in such allocations was made to constituent agencies for the fiscal year of 1998-99.

The Council for Jews with Special Needs was formed 13 years ago as a human resource agency for Jewish children and young adults with physical, mental, behavioral and learning disabilities. Services include information, support groups, religious schools, camp inclusion, community awareness and education about disabilities and resources. Its goal is to achieve full accessibility to Jewish activities and services for individuals with disabilities.
