Getting young people involved
These are among the several Valley programs that help youths connect with Judaism. Also check with local synagogues and the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix for information on additional school and camp programs.
- Beth El Congregation (944-3350) - Kadima (international program sponsored by United Synagogue Youth of America) for grades 4-6 and junior USY for grades 7-8. Programs provide youths with social, religious and educational experiences within the framework of Conservative Judaism.
- Beth Joseph Congregation (277-8858) - Sponsors programs of the National Council of Synagogue Youth, an Orthodox program for Jewish teens.
- Chabad-Lubavitch (944-2753) - Arts-and-crafts and study group for children ages 5-13.
- Har Zion Congregation (991-0720) - Kadima for grades 4-6, USY programs for grades 7-12. Bi-monthly events, conventions and Shabbatons.
- Temple Beth Israel (951-0323) - Rishonim Youth group for grades 4-6 (temple members only); Itty Bity Youth Group for grades 7-8 (open to non-members). Social activities, social action programs and religious services.
- Temple Beth Sholom (964-1981) - Kadima for grades 4-6. Educational, religious and social programs.
- Temple Chai (971-1234) - Youth programs for grades 4-8. Socializing, social action and Judaica.
- Temple Emanuel of Tempe (838-1414) - Junior youth group for grades 7-8.
- Temple Kol Ami (951-9660) - Eighth-graders meet Sunday evenings with parents under the leadership of Rabbi B. Charles Herring.
- Temple Solel (991-7414) - Youth programs for grades 4-12. Socializing, social action, teen issues and other Jewish interests.
- Valley Jewish Youth (451-1951) - Youth-oriented social activities for those ages 9-18. Brings together Jewish youth from all denominations; synagogue affiliation not necessary.
- Young Judaea (303-321-8013) - Sponsored by Hadassah for children in grades 3-12. Located in Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa and Scottsdale. Combines Jewish and Zionist education and social activities.
- Hillel Jewish Student Center at Arizona State University (967-7563) - Social, religious, educational, athletic and cultural programs for Jewish students at ASU and local community colleges.
- Bureau of Jewish Education (234-1660) - Programs for high-school-age students include classes, dances, concerts, motivational speakers, Shabbat forums and dinners.
- Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix (274-1800) - Programs in cooperation with local synagogues to help families send young people to Israel.
