'Loca Rosa' to appear at Mesa schools

Ethnic folk musician Tish Dvorkin, who uses the stage name "Loca Rosa," will be appearing as part of the Creative Arts Tour at Mesa Public Schools, performing Russian-Jewish folk songs and stories over a three-week period beginning Monday, Sept. 28.

Dvorkin is an Arizona Commission on the Arts roster artist, teaches music at Temple Beth Sholom in Mesa, and performs both as a solo musician and with her group, "Loca Rosa and Byelaroza Dancers."

In 37 performances at 24 Mesa elementary schools, Dvorkin will sing folk songs and tell folk tales from some of the countries of her Jewish ancestors - Russia, Turkey, Spain and Israel.

Individuals may attend a performance if they first obtain approval from the specific school.

Partial funding for the Creative Arts Program is provided by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, through appropriations from the state Legislature and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
