Shofar Factory makes several Valley visits

Rabbi Mendy Deitsch of Chabad of the Southeast Valley and Linda Feldman, Jewish family educator at the Bureau of Jewish Education, will present a Shofar Factory at several Valley religious and day schools Aug. 30-Sept. 17.

The shofar (ram's horn) is blown on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.

The Shofar Factory will bring raw rams' horns to the schools. Children will play an active role in fashioning shofars from the horns by drilling an opening in the horns and sanding and varnishing them. Children also will learn what criteria a ram's horn must meet to qualify as a genuine shofar.

The Shofar Factory will visit Temple Chai on Sunday, Aug. 30; Solomon Schechter Day School on Tuesday, Sept. 15; Temple Solel on Wednesday, Sept. 16; and the Phoenix Hebrew Academy on Thursday, Sept. 17.

For more information or specific times for these visits, call Rabbi Deitsch at 753-5366.
