Hospice volunteers sought

Hospice of the Valley is seeking volunteers to help care for patients and their families who are facing terminal illness. The next training session will begin Sept. 14.

Volunteers give about four hours of their time each week to help the patient and family in ways that a friend might, including reading, playing cards or running errands.

Hospice of the Valley also needs volunteers to assist with fund-raising, public speaking, supporting office staff and bereavement support for families.

Volunteers are matched with patients and families by age, interests, geographic location and family needs. Volunteers receive 33 hours of training by hospice staff to prepare them to accommodate the needs of patients.

For more information, call 530-6900.
