Associate editor Brady wins first place at press awards

Jewish News Associate Editor Anne Brady recently won first-place honors in the annual Simon Rockower awards competition sponsored by the American Jewish Press Association.

Brady's entry was picked as the best in the arts and criticism category for newspapers with circulations under 15,000. She earned the award for her review of Michael Drosnin's "The Bible Code," a book that sparked much controversy in early 1997. The review appeared in the June 13, 1997, issue of Jewish News, under the headline "Did God Play Scrabble in the Bible?"

The award, which was announced June 18 at the AJPA annual conference in Cleveland, was accepted on behalf of Brady by Jewish News Advertising Manager Shery Fox, who attended the conference meetings.

Jewish News Editor & Publisher Flo Eckstein serves as treasurer on the AJPA board of directors.
