Summer episodes of PBS series focus on World War II

"People's Century," a 26-part historical series airing on the Public Broadcasting System, this month takes a look at the World War II era.

Next week's episode, "Lost Peace," airs locally at 9 p.m. on Monday, June 8, on KAET-TV Channel 8. It examines the hope for peace as the armistice is signed after World War I and the League of Nations is formed, and the looming threat of Nazism and Fascism. "Master Race," airing at 9 p.m. on Monday, June 15, chronicles the rise of Nazism and Hitler's efforts to unify Germany by assigning blame to others, such as the Jews, for the country's woes. "Total War" airs on June 22.

The "People's Century" series, co-produced by WGBH in Boston and the BBC, combines the personal testimony of people with rare archival film footage. It is narrated by John Forsythe and Alfre Woodard. Future episodes will examine the Cold War and the overthrow of colonial rule in Asia and Africa.
