Jay Busch Band to open Botanical Garden concert seriesThe Jay Busch Band will present a contemporary jazz concert, as the opening act in the Desert Botanical Garden's Spring 1998 Music in the Garden series, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Ullman Terrace at the garden, 1201 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix.Busch, a Scottsdale resident, is a professor at Arizona State University, where he teaches three courses in the Humanities Music curriculum, and is president and chief executive officer of J.B. Productions. He formerly worked as a day-camp counselor for the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center and as assistant director of the JCC overnight camp in Prescott. His five-piece, award-winning band includes Busch on drums; Jim Henry, trumpet and vocals; Dave Schmidt, saxophone and vocals; Paul Darrow, piano and vocals; and Jay Usher, guitar and vocals. Concert tickets are $6 for garden members and $13 for non-members (including garden admission). Breakfast will be served from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for $9. Upcoming concerts in the series are scheduled to include: Jan Sandwich, smooth jazz vocals, March 1; Mas!, Latin, March 8; Meadowlark, Celtic, March 15; the Swingtips, swing, March 22; Desert City Six, Dixieland jazz, March 29; Arpeggio, classical, April 5; Beth Lederman Quartet, smooth jazz, April 12; and Mariachi Continental, April 19. |
