Obituaries

Barbara Eileen Fine

Barbara Eileen Fine of Glendale died May 23, 2005. She was 78. She was born in Minneapolis and moved to Arizona in 1979. She was a retired office administrator.

Survivors include her husband, Irving; daughter, Julie Fine-Wright of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; sons, Marshall of Ossining, N.Y., and Rick of Aurora, Colo.; sisters, Marcia Levin of Sioux City, Iowa, and Myrna Abrams of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren.

Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Wilfred Singer

Wilfred Singer of Sun City died May 23, 2005. He was 88. He was born in New York City and moved to Arizona in 1978. He was an accountant. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Temple Beth Shalom and the Jewish War Veterans.

Survivors include his daughter, Meredith of Sun City; son, Steven of Tucson; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were held at Sunland Memorial Park, with Rabbi Arthur Abrams officiating. Arrangements were made by Best Funeral Services.

Alfred "Freddy" Miller

Alfred "Freddy" Miller, a former New Jersey resident, passed away April 28, 2005 at Scottsdale Healthcare Center. Dedicated husband to Janet, beloved father to David, Jess, Michael and Lisa, Freddy was an orchestra leader and music arranger for many years. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he moved to NJ with his wife and lived most of his life in Oradell, NJ. He was a successful sales representative and then marketing director for Eastern Electric before retiring to Arizona.

Private memorial services were held at the Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.

Surviving are his wife Janet, sons David and Jess, daughter Lisa; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.



Pearl Eleanor Smigel

Pearl Eleanor Smigel, 97, of Louisville, KY, died May 16, 2005.

She was active in many charities throughout her lifetime. Most recently she was the supervisor of Kosher Catering in Louisville. She and her husband, Daniel, were the owners of the Smart Dress Shop in Mt. Carmel, PA, where they raised their family. She also helped raise a child in North Carolina, Aaron Mandelsohn. She was a member of Congregation Anshei Sfard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Smigel and their daughter, Adele Smigel, and her second husband, Irving Shanfield.

Survivors include two daughters, Frances Winchell of Louisville and Norma Shafer of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, Cheryl Hirsch-Ginsberg (Pedro) of Houston, TX, Craig Winchell (Jennifer) of Sebastopol, CA, Ellen Goldman (Michael) of Trumbull, CT, Amy Leibowitz (Glen) of White Plains, NY, Lawrence Shafer (Amy) of Phoenix, AZ, Adele Shafer and Dina Shafer of San Francisco, CA; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Interment was in Tifereth Israel Cemetery in Mt. Carmel. Local arrangements by Herman Meyer & Son.
