ObituariesBertram SingerBertram Singer of Mesa died May 10, 2005. He was 75. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona in 1975 from South Carolina. He was a retired buyer. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.Survivors include his wife, Marlene; daughter, Carrie Gabele of Sun Lakes; son, Michael of Mesa; sister, Linda Heller of Phoenix; brother, Howard of Costa Rica; and two grandchildren. Services were held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014. Shirley R. LongShirley R. Long of Glendale died May 11, 2005. She was 79. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona in 1972. She was a bookkeeper for a fashion merchandising business.Survivors include her husband, Willis; sons, Gary Edelson of Glendale, Wayne Edelson of South Jordan, Utah, Jay Edelson of Phoenix, Bruce Edelson of Phoenix, Robert Edelson of Phoenix and Alan Edelson of Phoenix; sister, Lenore Gross of Bronx, N.Y.; brother, Herbie Dembroe of Phoenix; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi Irwin Weiner officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Stephen P. TalmadgeStephen P. Talmadge of Paradise Valley died May 15, 2005. He was 57. He was born in New York City and moved to Arizona in 1975. He was an attorney. He served in the U.S. National Guard.Survivors include his wife, Marie Mancuso; stepdaughter Jenny Mancuso of Tempe; stepson, Jon Mancuso of Tucson; mother, Zena Bagatelle of Sun Lakes; and sister, Kazzie of Scottsdale. Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi Lisa Tzur officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Theodore "Ted" SmithTheodore "Ted" Smith, age 83, of Phoenix, passed away on May 15, 2005 surrounded by his loving Family. He was born in Homestead, PA and has been a resident of the Valley for the past 60 years. Ted, along with his brothers began and operated Industrial Uniform Service, Inc. He was a foundingmember of Beth El Congregation, and a decorated Navy veteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific Theater of War in the battles of Midway, Iwo Jima, and Guadal Canal. Ted was actively engaged in philanthropic activities in the Valley throughout his life. He was a lover of music and was blessed with a magnificent singing voice. He is survived by wife Shirley, sons Jeff (Jan) Smith, Keith "Kit" (Linda) Smith, Bradley (Nancy) Smith, 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday in Phoenix.
