Jennifer Goldberg, staff writer for Jewish News of Greater Phoenix, is among 20 journalists from North America selected to participate in the Gralla Fellows Program for Journalists in the Jewish Press at Brandeis University. The Gralla Fellows Program, the premier advanced journalism seminar in the nation on the American Jewish community, is designed to enhance journalists' knowledge of Judaism, American Jewish life and trends relevant to religion reporting. The program will be held July 17-21 on the Brandeis University campus. Fellows were selected from a competitive pool of candidates in the print, audio and digital media and will participate in a series of lectures, seminars, tours and workshops led by leading scholars, journalists and community leaders.

The local portion of the Jewish National Fund's annual fund-raising campaign "31 Days in May" recently kicked off under the leadership of Ron Finkel, director of sales for Scottsdale-based Retail Brokers Incorporated. The campaign, which raised approximately $2.3 million nationally in 2003, began in the Valley on April 13 with the fourth annual JNF Breakfast in Scottsdale. This year's campaign is part of the national program "Blueprint Negev: It's Not A Mirage, It's Our Vision," which seeks to move 250,000 people to the Negev Desert in southern Israel during the next 10 years. The newly formed Temple Havurat Emet Sisterhood has elected its first officers: Sydnee Shalita, president; Lenore Huskey, vice-president; Linda Wasserman, secretary; and Royce Steiner, treasurer. The Sisterhood was organized with the purpose of running temple social functions as well as increasing the bonds of sisterhood among members. Charter members include Carolyn Arkins, Joyce Tubben, Jacquey Moss, Wendy Plotkin, Elaine Plotkin, Nancee Jacobson, Bev Lefton, Dotty Brook, Bev Worthing, Ellin Merritt, Laura Eisenhart, Regina Milgroom, Sherine Frazin, Tillie Rubin and Sheri Sinykin.
