Obituaries

Shirley Jeanne Soule

Shirley Jeanne Soule of Chandler died May 7, 2005. She was 78. She was born in St. Louis and moved to Arizona in 1976. She was a retired retailer and secretary. She was a Girl Scout leader and a member of B'nai Amoona Congregation of St. Louis.

Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Soule-Schiller of Brattleboro, Vt., and Tamar Spart of Phoenix; son, Ted of St. Louis; sister, Esther Goilub of California; and five grandchildren.

Services were held at B'nai Amoona, with Rabbi Bernard Lipnick and Rabbi Ranon Teller officiating. Arrangements were made by Berger Mortuary of St. Louis.



Barry Elliot Kazan

Barry Elliot Kazan, 58, passed away April 29, 2005. Barry was a sweet, generous and free-spirited soul, whose zany humor and kind heart touched all who knew him. He loved people, music and a good laugh, but most importantly, Barry loved life. Whether it was partying in a San Francisco jazz club, cheering for his beloved Phoenix Suns or managing the family's hardware business, Barry's zest for living showed in all he did.

He is survived by his wife Maria; stepdaughter Julie Metcalf of Phoenix and her husband David; his mother, Lee Kazan of Phoenix; his sisters: Sherry Bell of Phoenix, Lala Van Camp of Phoenix, & Carole Mandino of Flagstaff, Arizona; 3 brothers-in-law; one niece and 2 nephews; several aunts and uncles; many cousins; and countless friends.

Services were held May 3 at Phoenix Memorial Mortuary, 200 W. Beardsley Rd., Phoenix.



Tillie Shiff

Tillie Shiff, born Dec. 9. 1913 in Montreal, Canada and wife of the late Louis Shiff, passed away May 10, 2005. She is survived by her son Ted (Gloria) Shiff; daughter Rona (Lawrence) Green; grandchildren Sam (Suzanne) Green, Linda (James) Fishman, Allison (Michael) Krusch, Stuart (Jose) Shiff, Jonathan (Tatiana) Shiff, Liza Shiff, Louis Shiff, and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Sarah Hertz and Phyllis Kauffman, and brother William Aber.

Services and interment took place in Montreal, Canada.

Jerry Sigel

Jerry Sigel, 74, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa, died April 28, 2005, at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa.

He was born March 22, 1931 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Ben and Ida Segelman Sigel. He married Virginia (Ginny) Havercamp on June 5, 1960. She preceded him in death on October 12, 2003.

He and his wife owned and operated Sigel's furniture in Otumwa. They moved to Scottsdale in 1987 where they owned and operated Sigel's Fine Floors, retiring in 1997. He was a member of B 'Nai Jacob Synagogue in Ottumwa and Temple Beth Emeth in Scottsdale.

Survivors include a daughter, Deena Sigel of Scottsdale; a son, Larry (Michal) Sigel of Ankeny, Iowa; a granddaughter, Alexandra Sigel of Ankeny; and two brothers, Alan Sigel of San Francisco and Dr. Norman Sigel of Fresno, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services were held on May 2, 2005 at the Ottumwa Jewish Cemetery with Arnold Sigel officiating.
