Deb Karel, marketing and administration coordinator of Jewish News, has accepted a new position as community account executive. She will handle advertising for nonprofit organizations. Karel started at Jewish News in October 2002. She also teaches religious education at Temple Emanuel of Tempe. Before moving to Arizona, Karel worked at the Orange County Bureau of Jewish Education in Irvine, Calif. Karel replaces Bobbi Eller, who accepted a position as national sales director for GR News, a publication of the Golden Retriever Club of America.

Temple Beth Emeth of Scottsdale has announced that a member, William L. Lieberman, has been appointed as a member of the Governor's Council on Blindness and Visual Impairment for the state of Arizona. Lieberman is a native of Rochester, N.Y., and a retired executive vice president of a lumber and building material company. He was chairman for the Commission of the Blind and Handicapped for the state of New York and president of the State of New York School for the Blind.

Arizona Business & Development, the publisher of six Arizona magazines, marks its 20th year of publishing with the May 2005 issue of Arizona Business Magazine. In 1985, President and CEO Michael Atkinson led a partnership that purchased the Phoenix Office Guide. With the goal to tell the stories of the Arizona business community, the publication was soon rebranded as Arizona Business Magazine. The magazine was published quarterly until 1997 when it became bimonthly. Atkinson has added five other publications to the Arizona market including Ranking Arizona, Arizona Lifestyle Magazine, The Creative Designer, Experience Arizona and AZRE: Arizona Commercial Real Estate Magazine.
