Lila Corrine Droz

Lila Corrine Droz, 73, passed away April 20, 2005 surrounded by her loved ones. Lila was born in Detroit, MI and moved to Phoenix at age 14. She attended North High School and was in the first nurses graduating class at Good Samaritan Hospital on McDowell. She went back to school in her 40s, receiving her BSN from ASU. She worked for many years at both Phoenix Memorial Hospital and as the Transplant/Dialysis Coordinator at the Maricopa County Healthplan. Lila struggled with ongoing medical conditions throughout her life, but everyone who knew her would say that what they remember is her insatiable thirst for life. She was a friend, a sage, an advisor, non-judgmental but willing to kick you in the pants when you needed it. Those of us touched by her life will never forget her and are forever enriched from knowing her. She enjoyed the beauty of the earth and of mankind, from the mountains to the beach, from the symphony to the Rolling Stones, from fine art to kitsch, from fine dining to burgers in the car with her grandson Coleman. For her daughters and grandchildren she represented unconditional love and she always made us feel like the most special, most brilliant kids on earth.

She is survived by her daughters Randi Albrechtsen (Cody) and Paula Benson (Scott) and her grandchildren, Karilyn, Emily, Natalia and Coleman. She also leaves behind a beloved brother David Chatlin (Marilyn) but joins her late brother Sheldon Chatlin (Sybil).

She enjoyed the company of many old friends and the memories of travel to Europe, Mexico, McCall, Idaho and other misbehaviors over the years. She will be missed by us all forever. A memorial will be held in late summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis TN, 38105 and Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E Flower St, Phoenix, AZ 85014. We would also like to thank the many fine doctors and nurses at the AZ Heart Hospital for their years of fine care and support for our mother.
