Dads do a lot for us-more, probably, than we're even aware of. Show Dad that he's truly appreciated with a great gift this Father's Day, on June 19.

A master of Jewish literature

When novelist Saul Bellow died earlier this month, the Jewish community lost one of its greatest literary voices. For the dad who loves to read, choose the new Penguin Classics editions of some of Bellow's most celebrated works.

In "Herzog," a tragically confused intellectual suffers from the breakup of his second marriage, the general failure of his life and the specter of growing up Jewish in the middle part of the 20th century. "Seize the Day" follows a middle-aged Jewish man on the brink of financial ruin and spiritual collapse. In "Mr. Sammler's Planet," an aging Holocaust survivor weighs in on the state of modern civilization as he makes his way through New York City.
The Penguin Classics editions cost $13-$15.

Not that there's anything wrong with that

Seinfeld season four comes out on DVD on May 17, just in time for Father's Day. Season four includes some of the show's classic moments, including Trivial Pursuit with the Bubble Boy, the Junior Mint, the time Jerry dates the virgin and the infamous "Contest." The box set includes all 24 episodes plus hours of commentary, deleted scenes, outtakes and more. Cost is $50.

Finishing touches

Jazz up Dad's business attire with stylish cufflinks from DUO jewelry store in Scottsdale. Bar-shaped stainless steel cufflinks with a .06-carat diamond are understated and elegant, while round ones accented with black rubber and a diamond are hip and modern. Cost is $502 for the bar cufflinks and $263 for the round cufflinks. DUO is located in Scottsdale Fashion Square. Call 480-945-5540.

Kiss the cook

If the dad in your life is the grilling type, Brookstone has a wide assortment of barbecue accessories to take the family cookout to the next level. Try the Grill Alert Talking Remote Thermometer, which notifies the cook when the meat is done. Simply insert the transmitter probe into the meat, select the type of meat and desired level of doneness, and the voice prompt will sound when the food is almost ready and ready. Cost is $75.

Or, choose the Grill Coach Digital Barbecue Recipe Guide, which gives instant, expert advice on appetizers, beef, burgers, chicken, poultry, pork, sausages, fish, shellfish, veggies, spice rubs, marinades, sauces, pizza, desserts and more. The readout includes grill tips and terminology for both gas and charcoal grills. Cost is $50. Visit www.brookstone.com.

Teed off

Plenty of dads love a day on the links. The Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale is running a great summer special to share with the father of your choice. For just $85 per player, enjoy a morning round on the TPC Desert Course, lunch at the club's Desert Grill and an afternoon round at the TPC Stadium Course. Visit www.tpc.com/daily/scottsdale/index.html or call 480-585-4334.

Rock on

No matter what your taste in music, it often seems as though Dad has the exact opposite. Still, it's nice to do the right thing and pick up tickets to his favorite group.

Several great bands from the '70s and '80s will be in the Valley this summer. Try Earth, Wind and Fire with Chicago at Cricket Pavilion on Aug. 27 or Hall & Oates at Celebrity Theatre on June 24. Call 480-784-4444.
