Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green will address the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix's second annual Men's Night Out (MNO) on March 29.

MNO chairman Ron Barness is optimistic that the chance to hear Green will boost attendance at the fund-raising event.

Barness says event officials like the message that Green will bring - "working hard to achieve one's dreams and getting involved to make a difference."

In a telephone interview with Jewish News, Green cited the three "D's - desire, dedication and determination" - as prerequisites to achieving one's goals.

Green, 56, is a Pennsylvania native who has been a head coach in the National Football League for more than 10 years, first with the Minnesota Vikings and now with the Arizona Cardinals.

He tells Jewish News that when talking to young people, it's necessary to talk about "dreams and not being afraid to think about those dreams."

He explains that in order to achieve dreams, a person first has to set goals, and second, realize that there are people - parents and counselors - who can help achieve them.

He expounds on the three "D's."

"Desire," he says, "is the "establishment of what you want; dedication is that price you have to pay; and determination is not being discouraged if you don't get what you desire the first time."

He says "willingness to try, try again is part of the American way."

Green stresses the importance of giving back to the community, saying that everyone should know if they're fortunate and should help those who are not fortunate.

Looking forward to the upcoming football season, Green says he expects next year's team to do well. He explains that for the Arizona Cardinals to be successful, "we have to have a positive attitude, be committed, and set goals and expectations, and that's what we've done."

Men's Night Out is open to Jewish men ages 13 and older. "We really want to get fathers to bring their sons and grandfathers to bring their grandsons," Barness says. "We really want to get the young men of our community to realize their importance and their place in our community and get them used to the concept of working with others."

According to Barness, young men must believe they have the power to "make a difference, and improve our Jewish community and the world at large."
