The Young Leadership Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix held its Main Event Feb. 12 at Chaparral Suites in Scottsdale. More than 260 young leaders attended the event, co-chaired by Jeremy Marks and Barbie Zeff. The night raised more than $128,000 in pledges to the federation's 2005 Campaign for Jewish Needs and included 40 new pledges. Kevin Weisman, a Jewish actor on the ABC TV series "Alias," was the keynote speaker, and the Shining Star Band provided entertainment for the evening.

Gov. Janet Napolitano announced a newly formed Arizona Baseball and Softball Commission, which aims to expand spring training baseball and promote other baseball and softball opportunities within the state. The commission, led by former state senator Slade Mead, will include Shawn K. Aiken, Ron N. Barness, Christopher J. Bavasi, John G. Bebbling, Mike Candrea, Stephen M. Cobb, James P. de la Montaigne, Jennie Finch, Jonathan Miles Garrett, Geoffrey E. Gonsher, Jim Grossman, John Kaites, Aaron Kizer, Rocky La Rose, Eduardo Leon, Rose Mofford, Ricky Nelson, Ronald E. Pies, Joni Ramos, Mary Jane H. Rogers, Larry K. Yount, Felipe Zubia and Jay Zucker. Ex-officio members are Richard Hubbard, Karen Scates and Joe Yuhas.

Dr. Alvin Howard Perelman has been named as chairman of the medical advisory board for Aspire Markets, the nation's first market catering to the needs of people on weight loss or health-oriented diets. Perelman is the head of Southwest Pediatric Endocrinology in Scottsdale. Aspire opened its first location in January at the Promenade Shopping Center in northeast Scottsdale.
